I calculated: I worked 172h in 3 weeks! It might seem much, but here one extra day off would be suicide! There's just too much work to be done!
I'm fine with it, at least I have something to do. It gets boring very fast on a desert island.
Just a quick recap' of my three weeks here:
Week one: We started by working in the rooms until new staff came over.
Then, we mainly did office work and sometimes service.
For our first day off, we slept all morning! Then our bosses took us for a boat tour around the island, which was very nice. Except that it rained. Again.
I think rainy England follows me around. It must be my Nan sending the rain to me :)
In the evening we had a barbecue and we ate the best fish of the country, fresh from the sea!
The next day we worked really hard. Having the hotel empty is even worse than having it full. So our boss decided to treat us and took us to the asian restaurant of our neighbor (5*) hotel.
Week two: I left the island for the first time to go shopping for the hotel.
You wouldn't believe how much stuff a car can hold!
I even got to drive the car. All right, I just parked it. But still, it was the first time I got to drive an english car. In the english side! hahaha
For our day off, we decided to go for a hike. We looked like proper tourists.
So we walked on the beach for an hour before we even got to the beginning of the hike and got surprised by the sea. We didn't think about the tides.
So we had to go around the massive rocks with water up to our bottoms, trying to save our phones and cameras.
When we finally managed to get to the other side, we were wet (of course) and full of sand. We started our hike, relieved it actually exist.
And we walk up and up the mountain for around 30 minutes and when thought it was nearly over, a little sign said we only walked 500 meters ad that we had 2,5km to go. Imagine our faces!! Nevertheless, we kept on walking until it rained. AGAIN. End of the hike, time to go home.
For a sport lover like me (feel how enormously cynical I am), I was heart broken.
I CLIMBED ALL THAT WAY THROUGH SAND, WATER(S) AND MUD FOR NOTHING.
So we decided to take a shower, eat our sandwiches (that were full of water because of the rain) and go to our neighbor hotel (5*) for an drink and a cheesecake. :)
Week three: This week, again (no it did not rain... or at least at night but I was sleeping so it doesn't count), I went shopping. I think that, by the time I leave, I'm going to know the safety instructions from the boat like the back of my hand.
Anyway.
Our boss decided to treat us by ordering pizzas from our neighbor (still 5*) hotel (which costed 70$ for 4 pizzas) and open the home cinema for us.
We also got to visit one of their rooms which was interesting.
Well, it's always nice to know that you're better than others. Especially a 5* hotel!! haha
So this is my life in Seychelles so far, see you soon for more!!
